Treks Near Dehradun
Dehradun being located in the foothills of Shivalik Mountains is a heaven for adventure trekkers & nature lovers . This means that one doesn’t have to travel too far to be in the lap of mountains . In fact the average size of this city is 10 x 10 km , so its just 25-30 min of drive and you are in the mountains . The famous hill station Mussoorie and the surrounding hills are probably visible from every rooftop in Dehradun !

Dehradun is known for its unique geographic location & pleasant weather . It provides tremendous opportunities for adventure trekkers & enthusiasts . It is at a height of around 640 m from sea level . If you start trekking towards Mussoorie or nearby mountains , you will reach an altitude of 1800-2000 m within 6-7 hours . Here I would like to specially mention about the ” Pachhwadun region ” of Dehradun which is a starting point for numerous trek trails .
What is ” Pachhwadun ” region ?
Well , all the villages and forests on the outskirts of Dehradun come in the ” Pachhwadun ” region especially beyond the north & north-western edges of the city . This region is like a gateway for adventure trekkers & nature lovers as many villages in this region are a starting point for numerous amazing trek trails .Many of these villages are riverside or at an altitude of 850-900 m . ETC itself has explored around 25 trek trails starting from this region .
We are perpetually in a process of exploring and documenting new treks , so this website is growing everyday . Here are some amazing , challenging & inspiring trek trails :
- It is a challenging & beautiful day trek which starts from a village Jhariwala (near Santa Devi temple) along the Nun river flowing on the left side and mountains on the right side . After about 15-20 minutes of level walking the trail becomes a steep ascent towards the village Nunes . At this point the trail is in the dense Sal forests with the sound of the river flowing down the valley . In about 40-50 min we reach the Nunes village which is the first resting point on this trail . It is a beautiful village along the river Nun . 2) Trek to Bhadraj Hill –
- We start this trek at Jantanwala village in the Pachhwadun region of Dehradun at 10:00 am . After about 15 minutes of walking we cross the Nun river on our left towards a fresh water source to fill our water bottles . Again we cross the river and walk towards Jhariwala village at the base of the Santla Devi temple . From Jhariwala its about 15-20 min of level walking alongside Nun river on our left and mountains on the right side . - Nag Tibba is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas , north-east of Mussoorie. The peak is 3048 metres and it is believed to be the abode of ‘Nag Devta’ . Local villagers come to the top to offer their pujas (prayers) to Nag Devta (the snake God) for the protection of their cattle .This place is visited by trekkers & adventure enthusiasts for its scenic beauty and high elevation . Nag Tibba provides amazing views of Bandarpunchh peak, the Gangotri group of peaks, Kedarnath peak in the North, Doon Valley and the snow peaks of Chanabang .
